A Guy's Guide To Overcoming Erectile Dysfunction

Although men tend to think that they are alone -- that they are the only one suffering from erectile dysfunction-- the truth is that many men go through this condition from time to time. Most men also tend to feel very embarrassed about erectile dysfunction, and go through it alone because they refuse to talk about it with anyone – even their partner!

If you are a man reading this for yourself, or a woman reading it for the man in your life, you know by now that the guy who has this problem will most certainly not be going to the doctor about it. In fact, most men with erectile dysfunction are heard to say things like, “I’ll die before I get this checked out by the doctor!”

I highly recommend that you seek professional medical attention if this condition occurs for a lengthy period of time; however there are some methods you can try before taking the dreaded trip to the doctor’s office.

Erectile Dysfunction can be caused by physical problems or it can happen because of psychological issues. Usually erection problems increase with age, and it has been estimated that about forty percent of men over forty will have erectile dysfunction. Sometimes this condition occurs suddenly, but it is usually something that builds over time.

Having trouble with erectile dysfunction does not mean that your sex drive gets any lower, so men with this problem usually tend to get a bit depressed and can have low self esteem issues. If this describes how you are feeling right now, don’t be disheartened; remember that there are thousands of other men who are going through the same thing as you. You are not alone!

An erection problem occurs when the body does not allow sufficient blood flow to the penis. Although this is a physical problem, the man tends to become anxious about it, and this only results in more problems. Stress, anxiety, insecurity and other issues can be psychological difficulties that can also cause erectile dysfunction.

There are few things you can do to alleviate your psychological problems, and here is a list of the most effective ways:

• Reduce your alcohol intake. Too much drinking can greatly reduce the blood flow to your penis.

• Quit smoking. Smoking has the same effect as alcohol.

• Lower your cholesterol. High cholesterol causes blood vessels to narrow, and this does not help your erection at all.

• Get rested. Fatigue can not only cause erectile dysfunction, but it can also lower your sex drive and this can cause problems in your relationship.

• Find ways to lower your stress. Stress and anxiety are two of the main psychological problems that cause erectile dysfunction. You can lessen your stress and anxiety by talking about concern and problems with your partner or a therapist. Other ways that work is taking a long walk, dealing with your problems right away instead of procrastinating, and anything else that usually calms you down. Even playing another round of golf could help, although make sure you check with your partner first!
