Acid reflux is a big problem in the United States. According to recent studies approximately 20 million Americans experience acid reflux on a daily bases. Do not be one of them! Fight your acid reflux, know your symptoms. Acid reflux is a burning sensation in the throat or chest. The cause of acid reflux is stomach acid coming up into the lower throat or esophagus, but many different things may lead to acid reflux and may be referred to as causes of acid reflux. Acid reflux symptoms are often referred to as indigestion. Pain or pressure in the chest that is not accompanied by a burning sensation requires immediate medical attention. For all of us it’s our diet and it must change. For most Americans it’s our fast food and lack of alkaline vegetables. Alkaline food is food that helps stop acid reflux before it starts. Alkaline food includes broccoli, cabbage, carrot, apricot, avocado, almonds, and chestnuts. Acidic food is food you should stop eating. They include corn, olives, blueberries, macaroni, spaghetti, bacon, and beef. Also start keeping a record of what you eat on a daily bases. Knowing what gives you acid reflux is important in your way to recovery.

To treat acid reflux, first, make sure it is acid reflux. Check with your doctor. Changing your diet will help in the long run. There are some over the counter drugs that will help for the short term.

Some good tips are not to eat big meals. If you can, eat four to five meals a day in smaller portions. If you do eat a big meal, do not lay down. This causes stomach acid to get into the esophagus causing more damage. Instead go for a walk.

Fighting your acid reflux will require change and hard work on your part. Ending your acid reflux will make you feel better and help you lose weight, as well.
